US-Iran: what's the deal?

After Western media kept their silence when Iran turned on its nuclear reactor, and the US fed intelligence to Iran to fight the Kurds, the next step was Muqtada Sadr announcing a unilateral ceasefire, ostensibly to ensure the withdrawal of US troops this year. But why? The Vietnamese fought the US until the last helicopters took off from the embassy grounds, and similarly did the Afghan mojahedeen pursue the Soviets. The story is reminiscent of the ceasefire Barak arranged with Hezbollah to ensure for safe withdrawal of Israeli troops, at the cost of leaving Israeli weapons to terrorists.
