Netanyahu-Barak: a major rift

The PM has asked the government to rescind some of the defense minister’s most politically important responsibilities: to approve construction in the settlements and oversee the budgets of intelligence agencies. Netanyahu stripped Barak of construction oversight while the defense minister was abroad, and did not heed his demand to wait until his return. Netanyahu’s decision is especially odd since his and Barak’s parties are expected to form a bloc in the next elections.
