This Saturday, the number of housing-subsidies protesters declined from the previous week. The highest estimates claim 60,000 demonstrators nationwide; the real figure is probably closer to 40,000, less than half the previous turnout.
The numbers are low despite efforts to attract crowds with performances and media support.
People abandoned the protests when they saw clearly that the real goal was to oust the Netanyahu government. The protesters made no realistic economic demands, exhibited no concern for truly poor Israelis, and their political agenda was embarrassingly clear.
