In the aftermath of the Ayalon diplomatic scandal, Livni urged Turkey to decide which side it is on—meaning, presumably, Israeli-American or Iranian-Syrian.
Livni is wrong. Smart governments do not take sides, but constantly maneuver to maximize benefits for their people. Israel used to maneuver between Russia, France, Germany, and America before the government grew corrupt and lazy. Erdogan can only be praised by his people for his skillful pull-and-push game with Israel and his ability to maintain working relations with any country from America to Iran.
