Let the Turks in

Mavi MarmaraErdogan has ordered his navy to escort Turkish aid ships to Gaza in defiance of the Israeli blockade. Though the White House can so far be counted upon to prevent any clashes, there is no reason for Israel to intercept these ships. Obviously, a flotilla departing from Turkish ports would not carry weapons for Hamas, which in any case is abundantly supplied through Sinai. On the contrary, Israel can take the high ground by declaring that we have no problem with Turkish ships inspected by the Turkish government bringing humanitarian supplies to Gazans.

If, however, the Turkish Navy interferes with Israeli offshore gas exploration, we would be forced to conduct limited military operations against the NATO member. Our fear is that the Israeli government will abandon gas exploration near Lebanon the way we abandoned the gas fields in Gaza to Arafat.

Sure go ahead let Turkey humiliate you

1. Would not letting Turks break blockade project an image of weakness an encourage more anti-Israeli provocations by Arabs?
2. How can we know that Turks are not bringing weapons? How do we know that they are not going to bring weapons next time, or time after that.
Once Israel gives up the right to blockade Gaza, then anyone, including Iran will feel free to bring their supplies to Hamas.
