Israeli police chief Cohen tries ousting the South District commander Uri Bar-Lev by requiring him to take a two-year study leave at the cost of 1.2 million shekels a year.
Bar-Lev is arguably the most successful high-level commander. He reduced crime in the district full of Bedouins and Jewish gangs, and is known for decent relations with settlers during the destruction of Gush Katif. Cohen doesn’t like him.
