Just how stupid is he? Libya is a loose federation of dozens of large tribes and thousands of small clans with no semblance of a national state, much less a democracy. Much of the population lives in primitive Bedouin societies that have no grasp of such a complex Athenian political order.

And democracy would be the worst possible order for Libya because it would bring Islamists to power, launch a civil war, and eventually turn that oil-producing country into a failed state.

The problem is, the Palestinians do not want Ramallah as their capital—they want Jerusalem.

Even during the blissful Mubarak years, terrorism against Israeli targets never ceased in Sinai. The peninsula served as a hideout for Bedouins and other terrorists. It was also the major arms smuggling route to Gaza, a near-anarchic territory out of reach of the Egyptian army.
