The poster is unquestionably an example of bad taste—even though Shaham behaves in an ugly manner toward the hardim—but to charge its authors with incitement to violence is entirely baseless. Such frivolous charges are hardly possible in most modern democracies—except in the totalitarian state of Israel.

But look at the left-wing violence. Leftists routinely join Arabs, even inciting them to attack Israeli forces near the separation wall and the settlements. In numerous incidents, leftists have physically attacked soldiers and policemen, and in thousands of cases they have joined the Arabs in throwing rocks at them. Several leftists have openly called for the murder of Jewish religious figures and settlers. But such cases are almost never prosecuted, and no one in the government speaks of classifying leftist NGOs as terrorist organizations.

But how about Israel charging a rabbi over an academic book he wrote? Or a Jewish girl being prosecuted for caricaturing Mohammed as a pig? Or investigating the author of Baruch the Hero, which merely listed indisputable facts about Baruch Goldstein?

Yigal, convicted of assassinating Yitzhak Rabin, is the longest-serving solitary confinement prisoner in Israeli history, and perhaps in the history of any civilized country. He is allowed to meet one prisoner, a different one each time, three times a week for one hour.

The prohibition of minyan severely curtails his religious rights while Arab terrorists nearby pray as they wish and generally enjoy life with cell phones and satellite TV. Shabak alleges that Yigal would indoctrinate other prisoners during his minyan sessions. If such is his ability, he must be made our Foreign Minister. And Arab terrorists haggling together—they, of course, do not indoctrinate each other, according to Shabak’s logic.

Neither Rabbi Shapira nor any of his students have been convicted of any relevant crimes. By the government’s standard of suspicion, we might as well close every Arab school and most schools in poor neighborhoods.

Yet the government itself does a similar thing. Alex Ostrovsky, a leader of young settlers, was arrested after the touted ‘pogrom’ at an IDF base. The incident followed the Migron expulsion, and involved mostly spraying military vehicles with political graffiti. Government spokespeople were quick to describe it as a ‘pogrom’ and ‘an act of terror.’

The true purpose of the bill is to allow the police and Shabak access to the private data of regular citizens—mostly right-wing Jews and political opponents—under the guise of anti-terrorism.

Israeli law specifically excludes religious texts from the definition of incitement, so the prosecution is moot on the face of it.

Such measures are rarely applied even to Arabs, and are illegal in almost all democracies, except in some jurisdictions for sex offenders.

As a condition for bail, police requested that the protesters be prohibited from entering Jerusalem.

Police filed harsh charges against the protesters in order to preempt criticism over the attack on them. Possibly for the first time ever, police fired rubber bullets at Jewish demonstrators who posed no threat whatsoever. It may be that the fake right-wing government is testing the limits of public tolerance before evicting settlers.
