Ex-Mossad chief being groomed to sign peace treaty with Palestinians

Meir Dagan has launched a political movement, “There is a chance,” which calls for structural changes in the electoral system. Dagan wants to raise the election barrier from 2 to 3%, thus effectively barring settler parties from the Knesset. He would also like the head of the largest party to automatically become the prime minister—which makes coalitions unnecessary and leaves religious parties powerless.

Since settlers and religious parties support all socialist and militaristic decisions of the government, the only conceivable reason for such restructuring is to sign a peace treaty with the Palestinians, which means making problematic concessions such as destroying the settlements and abandoning the Temple Mount.

And it seems that foreign forces are grooming Dagan to become just such a leader.

Healthcare is 3/4 more expensive than what it seems

According to new data, the healthcare tax covers only 54% of actual expenses. Another 39% is paid by the government.

Which is a good news for Israeli communists—and for the rest of us a dangerous sign of the country sliding into socialism.

Free kindergartens disguised as education

The Education Minister confirmed that the government will provide free kindergartens from the age of 3 to most of the population this year.

Even in Scandinavia, childcare is not free, although it is subsidized. In order to gloss over the obvious socialist overtones of free kindergartens, the children’s attendance is touted as education. But even primary schools provide very poor education. To imagine that kindergartens would provide anything that could be described as education is a delusion.

For leftists, religious Jews are worse than Arabs

Citizen equality is all very fine, but why not start with the Arabs, who do not serve in the army or National Service at all? One might also point out that close to half of Tel Aviv’s atheist youngsters dodge the draft.

Israeli socialism reaches new heights

The Knesset approved amendments which would allow single mothers who receive subsidies from the state to travel abroad four times a year for up to two months.

Previously, the law contained a commonsense provision that a person so poor as to apply for subsidies cannot be expected to travel abroad.

African illegals: common sense reaches Tel Aviv

The mayor of Tel Aviv, a leftist citadel, called on the government to do something about African immigration. The mayor was correct to call the illegals a threat to our society.

Previously, the government ignored conservatives or threatened to charge them with racist incitement when they demanded that the criminal African subculture in South Tel Aviv be removed. Even when the mayor of Eilat joined the chorus, he was written off as a provincial nut.

The mayor estimated that there are 20,000 African illegals in South Tel Aviv, which is probably an understatement. Since breakdown of Mubarak’s government, hundreds of them enter Israel every week.

We have yet to hear the government endorse the only sensible solution: to move the illegals to UNRWA camps in Gaza.

Kadima moves to the left

Before the 1970s, Israeli socialists were ultra-right by modern standards. They openly hated Arabs and repressed them. That has changed with Likud’s ascent to power, which has forced socialist parties to differentiate themselves from the right-wingers.

A similar process is going on today. Likud is pandering superficially to its voters by introducing somewhat nationalistic policies, forcing Kadima to differentiate itself—although two years ago Livni and Netanyahu held similar opinions on most issues. And so Livni declared in the Knesset that Netanyahu is working to undermine Israeli democracy. Among his ‘crimes’ is a bill to limit foreign donations to ultra-leftist Israeli NGOs.

Tel Aviv will be dirty

The leftist organizers of the housing protests successfully pressed the court to ban Tel Aviv municipality from demolishing their semi-abandoned tents. So it’s OK with the court that the main streets will remain unkempt during the holidays. The leftists, of course, are only too glad to disturb holidays with religious connotations.

As Israeli Facebook protests spread, they have begun to make purely socialist demands—which is understandable, since free-market regulation is complex and hard for the public to understand.

The movement’s leftist bent became more pronounced after trade unions joined the fray.

Housing protesters now demand subsidies and price controls. ‘Kids cost’ protesters want the government to pay for baby care from the age of three months, regulate the price of diapers, and so forth. This would return Israel to the socialism of her early years.
