A new mini-scandal: the International Solidarity Movement videotaped an IDF officer hitting a foreign activist. There will be investigation and the officer will probably be demoted. But why?

Israeli just had expended significant resources to stop the ‘flytilla.‘ Hundreds of left-wingers were prevented from entering our country. This means that such people are recognized as a clear and present danger to public order.

In the above-mentioned incident, more than two hundred left-wingers in the Jordan Valley refused military orders to stop. Instead, they attempted to proceed and entered into clashes with the army. These people comprise such an ardently anti-Zionist crowd that it’s no wonder one of them was hit by a Jew; the wonder is that only one Jew did so.

In effect, the officer used minor force against a subversive element. Perhaps he could have used lesser force, but what is a point of being nice to those who want to destroy us?

The last time a group of anti-Israeli organizations announced plans to dispatch hundreds of activists by air, the EU countries mostly prevented them from boarding their flights based on information provided by Israel. This time, however, most of the activists are expected to arrive in Ben Gurion airport without hindrance. Hundreds of police are on duty to prevent them from entering our country.

This is unreasonable. We expend massive resources spying on those peaceful organizations. Instead, let them come and protest here—who cares? We have “Peace Now,” “There is a Limit,” and many similarly subversive organizations that stage routine protests. So let foreign activists join them and go back home.

What has to be done, however, is law enforcement. If foreign activists break our laws, join or instigate riots, or demand that our land be given away—which is a crime here—they should be arrested, tried, and sentenced to significant jail terms. That would show the others that rioting in Israel is no game, and discourage further flotillas.

Instead, our government makes bravery attractive to the activists: they demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian cause by flying here, and then they are safely deported.

Livni and Mofaz, two prospective candidates for Kadima’s leadership, squared off at the Masorti conference. The participants competed in anti-religious rhetoric, a fitting attitude at an event hosted by Conservative ‘rabbis.’

Mofaz demanded more socialist income redistribution and bragged about his opposition to the Tal Law, which when originally introduced was a sensible enough measure designed to involve the haredim in the army.

Livni declared her intention to build a coalition government without the haredim, thus excluding a quarter of Israel’s population from decision-making. We doubt she would dare to state publicly a desire to exclude Arab parties from government.

It is odd that the Kadima party, which was formed for the sole purpose of pushing for Gaza withdrawal, is alive and kicking despite the admitted failure of the withdrawal.

Meir Dagan has launched a political movement, “There is a chance,” which calls for structural changes in the electoral system. Dagan wants to raise the election barrier from 2 to 3%, thus effectively barring settler parties from the Knesset. He would also like the head of the largest party to automatically become the prime minister—which makes coalitions unnecessary and leaves religious parties powerless.

Since settlers and religious parties support all socialist and militaristic decisions of the government, the only conceivable reason for such restructuring is to sign a peace treaty with the Palestinians, which means making problematic concessions such as destroying the settlements and abandoning the Temple Mount.

And it seems that foreign forces are grooming Dagan to become just such a leader.

Even in Scandinavia, childcare is not free, although it is subsidized. In order to gloss over the obvious socialist overtones of free kindergartens, the children’s attendance is touted as education. But even primary schools provide very poor education. To imagine that kindergartens would provide anything that could be described as education is a delusion.
