Mufti fights Jews with their own weapon

Netanyahu is beating the PR drums by calling on the Attorney General to investigate a Jerusalem mufti for incitement. The PM’s demand leads nowhere, as he knows full well. First, he cannot prosecute the mufti for political reasons. Second, Israeli law specifically excludes religious books from the definition of racism, and the mufti quoted a well-known hadith.

Now, it is an oddity that such a figure as a ‘mufti of Jerusalem’ exists in the Jewish state, whose religion commands the expulsion of other confessions from the Land of Israel. And it is no less odd that the Jewish state allows the practice of the Muslim religion, which contains similar instructions. But beyond that, the mufti was within his civil rights to quote the Hadith.

The Knesset Committee on Absorption will discuss the situation of Jewish women married to Arabs. Technically, the problem is that many of these Arabs prevent their women from leaving their villages. But as everyone understands, the real problem is the tens of thousands of Jewish women who converted to Islam in order to marry their sweethearts. Oddly, the problem is most serious not among Russian women, but among the impoverished Sephardi population. Israeli law ceases to work for them, because as Muslim converts they fall under religious jurisdiction of qadis—Muslim judges—who rarely grant them divorces, and never give them their children.

Rabbi Kahane worked relentlessly to bring those women back home. Now this work is being continued by Yad le-Achim.

What are so many Arabs doing in hospitals?

Arab MK Tibi complained that Arabs comprise only 9.5% of medical workers in Israel, half of their proportion in the population.

Wait, that’s a worrying figure. Though the exact figures remain unknown, the ratio of Arabs joining medical schools is certainly less than half that of Jews. Thus, even in a perfectly egalitarian state we would expect the ratio of Arabs in the health sector to be well below 9%.

But as every student knows, Arabs receive preferential treatment in universities, and many Arab doctors are clearly unqualified. Thus, equal representation of graduates would be a grave hazard to the public health system.

Tibi probably included Arab nurses and non-graduated staff in his 9.5%. Even so, whatever political correctness demands, we should not forget that most Jewish patients would be very uncomfortable with an Arab nurse.

Two feuding Arab families—common families, not criminal clans—began shooting at each other in Jdeide village in the Galilee, as Arabs often do, and the boy was killed by a stray bullet.

Why risk Jewish lives for an Arab scoundrel?

A hundred Jews from the Israeli special forces risked their lives in Ramallah to free an Arab from Umm al Fahm. Other Arabs had kidnapped him after his father, a building contractor reneged on a $130,000 debt to them.

If the government was concerned with formalities, such as citizen equality before the law, we could as well argue that no Arabs from Umm al Fahm serve in Israeli combat forces. Or, still more legally, once the Arab was taken to Ramallah he became Fatah’s police problem, not ours.

Druze know the trends

Druze are commonly thought of as Israel’s most loyal Arabs. Which they are—to an extent. Some 500 Druze from the Golan Heights demonstrated in support of our sworn enemy, Assad.

And what choice do they have? Israel talks all the time about giving that land back to Syria, so the Druze know they must show loyalty to Assad if they know what is good for them. And now that NATO has refused to get involved in Syria, the Druze know Assad is winning.

Jewish vandals are suspiciously nice

Several tombstones at the Muslim cemetery in Yaffo were sprayed with ‘Death to Arabs’ and similar graffiti. Apparently, they had been vandalized quite some time ago, but subtly enough that no one noticed. Whether it was right-wing Jews or left-wing Jew-haters staging a provocation, no tombstones were smashed or uprooted—as Arabs usually do at Jewish cemeteries.

Hours after the graffiti was discovered, Arabs firebombed Rabbi Meir’s synagogue in Yaffo. Unlike cases in which Jews have allegedly vandalized mosques, the media reaction was muted, suggesting that the firebombing was a proper response to the graffiti.
