Israel recalled its Swiss ambassador in protest against Switzerland hosting the Durban II conference and Ahmadinejad, the Holocaust denier. The reaction is unusually strong and hints at Lieberman’s surprising influence on Netanyahu, who had to authorize the Foreign Ministry’s decision.
Switzerland was the first country to collaborate with the Germans in the Holocaust. At the request of the Swiss, the Germans stamped Jewish passports with a J (for Juden) so that Switzerland could distinguish them from other German citizens and deny entry to refugees.
