Iran: now it's serious

Moussavi and KarroubiObama’s policy of democratizing the Middle East may have backfired. Frightened by the US pressure on Egypt and Libya, the ayatollahs chose to preempt.

Iranian opposition leaders were sent to Parchin rather than put under house arrest, as the government does customarily. Few detainees leave Parchin alive. Not that we are concerned in the least about the lives of Moussavi and Karroubi, two vile Israel-haters and proponents of Iran’s nuclear program, but this all-out attack on the opposition signifies the utter radicalization of Iran’s leadership. They also cracked down on protesters without concern for Western opinion.

Considering Iran’s power thrust into the Mediterranean, Sinai, Bahrain, and Yemen, its new domestic policy signifies major changes ahead in Middle Eastern politics.
