Gadhafi’s son Saif, the most astute of his PR agents, told journalists that 20,000 young people in his hometown of Sirte are ready to fight for the colonel. If he has to rely on militia, nothing is left of his army.
That is odd. Gadhafi had a reasonably loyal population, to which he distributed 1.5 mllion light arms—clearly he did not fear the weapons would be turned against him. Yet his entire army, ten to twenty thousand soldiers, took the American money and went home.
