The US Federal Transportation Authority expects to downgrade El Al safety to substandard and ban new flights from Israel due to glaring problems with airport safety. Oddly, Israeli airport security is usually considered good, and US experts recently studied Ben Gurion operations. Now it appears they were investigating the airport.

It’s not the security rating that was downgraded. It’s the safety rating. The two are not the same. There are near-accidents all the time, and Air Traffic at BG is running a severely outdated system. This has absolutely nothing to do with protection from threats, etc.

I’m sure there’s no El-al safety problem but Americans as usual have some fears. El-al safety problem is in their heads only.
The behavior of Americans really impresses and is as rediculous as saying polygamy: Bedouins suffer badly from it. Everything is perfectly all right with safety at the airport.
El Al airport safety is hardly a point. Most likely, the point is that Yankies have a grudge against Israelis and El Al airport safety is a premise for making life harder for Jews.
Americans may be simply worried about the fact that arms are trafficking in Egypt and as they’re afraid to disturb Arabs, they press on Israelis in such a perverted way.
