Barak, Meretz oppose the judicial reform

The government approved Justice Minister Friedmann’s plan to allow the Knesset to re-vote the laws which the leftist Supreme Court declared unconstitutional. Such laws would be legislated by absolute majority.
The Supreme Court is undeterred in its rulings by the fact that there is no constitution in Israel.

The topics of judicial reform and judicial accountability arise quite frequently and merit much discussion. An internet radio program, “Change of Venue” which airs biweekly takes up these and other connected topics. Aside from comprehensive and spirited discussion of legal reform, with time allowing callers might make significant contributions to the discussion as well.

I don’t know how much ideas expressed on “Change of Venue” would help you in resolving issues in your legal system, but I hope the show and/or the Webpage and Archives section may be of some help. The National Judicial Conduct and Disability Law Project http://www.njcdlp.org emphasizes both judicial independence and judicial accountability. You say you don’t have a constitution, and we often complain that we have one that isn’t followed.
