Fatah’s top gangster thinks he is smart. Now that he eliminated district voting and left only party-list voting, banned Hamas have no chance in Palestinian elections.
Abbas reduced Hamas victory in the previous elections by a similar measure: half seats of the Bedouin “parliament” were allocated to party lists (where Hamas could not run) and half – to independents (where Hamas won overwhelmingly).
Abbas can proclaim himself a king of all Palestinians, but that doesn’t change the reality on the ground: population supports honest Islamic Hamas rather than the Fatah gang of Israeli collaborators.
Israel employs a similar party-list election system designed to ensure oligarchic grip on power and push many influential Jews out of politics, who would otherwise be elected as independents.
