@Eli, exactly. Isn't it laughable that he mentioned France (surrended to Germans within 6 weeks, about the same timeframe like Poland, and Poland actually never formally surrended), Denmark (2 (two!) hours of resistance after German invasion on April 9, 1940, then surrender), Spain (officially neutral), Britain (ever heard of the Phoney War?) as the "primary actors" in WWII without mentioning the Soviet Union that repelled the largest invasion in human history and caused about 80% of German casualities? Simply unbelievable. By the D-Day in June 1944 the fate of Germany was decided with or without US campaign and they joined in to carve out its own sphere of influence.

@T-Jew, I think he has a problem admitting that there are other players, than the US.
Russia did the dirtiest work during WWII, no doubt about that. The US and its allies waited till 1944 to join in against Germany. Of course, those pussies needed Russia to bleed long enough before stepping in. They created that monster in the first place to place Russia under check. Alas, that did not work, and the Communists won. The nukes were dropped on all the wrong places, ha-ha.

I do not know why on Earth you just keep omitting Russia and Soviet Union as the dominant player in the region, be it Eastern or Western Europe. Maybe it is something personal. Let's just stop it here. Basta.

I will concede your point that Europe consists of eastern as well as western, but the primary actors were the Brits, French, Germans, Italians, Danes and Spaniards (Spain came along years later), not Bulgaria. There wont be anymore "100 years war". You can make the argument that most of those countries started to get along before WWII, but I think WWII and US influence after the war drove the last nail in that coffin.

But it can all unravel at anytime, again that entropy thing.

The sanctions against Germany were very harsh. In addition, it was one of countries hit the most by the Great Depression. That did not prevent the next war. The enemy must be destroyed completely if the next war is to be prevented. Sanctions will never work.

Well, Europe consists not only of its Western part but of the Eastern one as well, that is where Soviet Union ruled and dictated its terms. Who preferred which one of the 2 superpowers' domination them is beside the point. No need to ask anybody, especially Hungarians. I objected to your idea that there was just USA over there ruling over and pacifying Europe.
One can say that it was the US who helped to win the war, not the other way round. Just look at the statistics of German losses on Western and Eastern fronts and also when D-Day happened and you will see.
And actually the USSR became superpower based on the outcome of WW2.

No where in my comment its mentioned that "Peace on Earth" was achieved. Conflict is natural, peace is an aberration. There is a little thing called entropy that G-d placed in the natural world to guarantee it.

The point was Europe has been a basket case of a continent for ages, and the US pacified it. The Soviet Union helped to win the war, but it was the US that rebuilt Western Europe by defending it and dictating its terms. The USSR was a rival to the US no matter what the outcome would of been.

Ask any European, who would they rather have dictating the terms the US or the Soviet Union, ask the Poles and the Hungarians. Maybe the US should not of allowed the USSR to capture Berlin, but that's a discussion for another day.

"Undeterred aftermath (USA setting the rules)." Hello? Have you heard about the major contributor to the victory, the Soviet Union, and about the Cold War that followed WW2 for 45 years precisely because the latter would set his own rules, very much opposite to the American ones?

There were many ways to prevent that war - like getting ready for a fight before Germany became strong and occupied countries like Czechoslovakia, but since even the harsh conditions of Germany's surrender in WWI were not enforced, larger conflict became inevitable.
Still, the message is the same - to keep aggressors in check, it is not enough to use pretty words.

Currently, Iranian theocrats are more dangerous than Arab radicals. Can we stop them?
