Are you ever misinformed on the state of the medical industry in the USA or what? Seriously, that was the worst description and misunderstanding of our plight with the health care for-profit industry with its for-profit hospitals and insurance companies I have ever seen. It may as well have been written by Glen Beck. Seriously, where did you come up with this mess? You've no idea what it costs to have insurance for a family, at least any kind of meaningful insurance. And $50 a child? Really? Seems my family policy has run $1200-1400 per MONTH and gone up 10-25% annually to get that high. That's under a group plan, too. Individual plans are not so easy to go before the new laws because they could rule out a child FOR LIFE from buying a private policy for just about any kind of prior treatment and call it a pre-existing condition. Stick to Israel for topics, you clearly don't understand what's going on in the USA.

Just a couple of points out of many. There is no such thing as a $50.00 a month insurance policy in America. I had one employee whose entire paycheck went for insurance for his wife and three children. The company paid his insurance. Everything else came out of his wife's paycheck. I enjoy this site, but quite frankly this piece is clearly a subjective opinion an absurd one at that.

Though there are good arguments for abandoning driver licensing, the case is different from doctors'. Unlicensed taxi driver endangers all public, including unconsenting people - while only informed consenting adults visit unlicensed doctor. At least, let's speak about non-AMA licensing rather than no licensing at all. Say, an Indian medical school seems like an acceptable licensing option.

So, why start with doctors? Let's try it on taxi drivers first. Who says you need a license to drive? It's not like you gonna kill someone, right? Right?
Ah, I see. I should expect to check driver license MYSELF before entering a taxi; who need traffic cops anyway. When truck driver without license will smash your family we shall continue this discussion, shell we?

John,

Deregulation will not prevent you from going to a doctor of your choice.
If you like AMA, you will just make sure that the doctor you are going to is a member of AMA in a good standing.

On the other hand, there is no question that free competition would bring prices down, not up.
Doctors in Bangladesh, Thailand, and tens of other countries would come here, and offer services for 1/3 the price.

More place in medical schools would open, more medical schools, too.

Danny,

Few centuries ago, only royalty and other very rich people were eating substantial quantities of meat, fish, and dairy. And indeed, the illnesses that Americans (and Israelis)suffer from were only common among the royals of the old: Diabetes, obesity, cancers, heart attacks, and much more.

I asked my parents about their died, when they were children in Poland before WWII, they were not very poor. They did not have meat and dairy every day.
When I read literature from 18th century, the peasants rarely ate meat and had very little dairy.
One cow naturally produces 150 Gallon per year after having a calf. (At least half of this has to go to the calf).
Today, a cow is deemed non-productive if she produces less than 3000 gallons per year. And most peasant families were not even rich enough to have one cow.
==========
Please have a look at China Study: The best designed and documented statistical study in history of science. Conclusion is inescapable: The more animal products in your diet, the more cancer, arteriosclerosis including heart attack and stroke.
============
May all our enemies eat meat, dairy, eggs and fish. May they eat a lot of it. And may the Jewish people wake up and drop this pre-scientific superstition.
Give meat,butter, eggs, icecream. to the Arabs, especially those in the Israeli jails.
Make them die from heart attack or if they survive, they will be too fat to be terrorists. We can kill them all this way, and not a single human right organization will accuse Israelis of Murder. In fact we can show them how "well" we treat our prisoners.
=
But Jews, should be smarter than that, we cannot afford to destroy ourselves. Kosher was a good beginning, certainly ahead of others, but today we know even better. We can be the healthiest people in the world, the smartest too, as low fat vegan diet is associated with 15 point higher IQ over average (higher oxygen transport to the brain). This on top of already 15 point higher IQ over the average Europeans, will make us smart enough to survive competing against the millions of the low IQ Arabs (The average Syrians are 86, and other Arabs even lower.)
Now is the time to use our intelligence. WE are supposed to be the light onto the world.
