and the word equals to kill is...
As far as I know, the "sight" in original hebrew means "favor", as where G-d turns his face against you and does not see you in favor. To me cutting off the sight of the people is expulsion. "do not see it anymore", since here goel ha dam does not act, nor nokem ha dam.
So, I understand your point, and understand also that in certain cases, expelling person equals to death, since survival and honor were very related back then.
If you disagree, please cite a single case where told us someone was slayed because transgressions as the ones in Leviticus 20:17.

Danny, let me ask you how you reach to the idea
that caret is execution. This is the main point of the discussion.

"That raised a practical question: once a sinner was assured of damnation, he had no reason to mend his ways. "

No, Teshouva is always possible. If it isnt then death is the only option because otherwise, as you wrote, the sinner would be "free" to commit a crime again.

Whether "caret" is an afterlife punishment or the absence of resurrection is a moot point.

It is indeed a well known fact that only mainstream views are the correct ones, and never before in history were proven wrong by the few, who had the courage to think.

You’re welcome )
But if we - very reasonably - follow Ramban's opinion, why the caret is said to take place "before the eyes of all people"

I like a lot of the opinions on this site, but the religious views often seem to be off kilter. This site's view of the punishment of Karet is far from the mainstream. I think I'll take Nachmanidies view of Karet over Obidah and Danny's, with all due respect, of course.
