Someone has finally said what I have been saying all along! The Orthodox Judaism of today (and I am modern Orthodox) has almost NOTHING to do with the Judaism G-d gave us. We are so busy keeping all the "fences" that we do not even know what the original law was. This obssesive controlling way of life is not what G-d intended for us when he gave us Judaism. It has become out of control, fence on top of fence. The whole point of a minhag is that it is NOT din and we should not treat it as such. If it is no longer applicable, do away with it. Why are we still keeping double the holidays outside Israel when we know what the true date is? These things drive me crazy and I wish there was a group of religous Jews who felt as I do and would want to keep Judaism as G-d gave it to us. Finally!!!
