To “Beta:”You wsh to know why the Israeli’s don’t learn from experience, and why they don’t do the obvious. It’s tragically simple and boils down to two facts:1) Israel is secular, fractionated, and too comfortable. There is not even enough residual patriotism to bind her wounds. Israel is not a biblical state and therefore has no unifying position or unified action accessable.Only a religious state can accomplish this. Israel was born in that state–and metamorphosed into political atheism, if you will.2) Israelis at once are naive and also cynical–believing that their government is acting in their interests and nothing else can be done.The Israeli government is a Middle-Eastern proxy of the US and has been so for almost a half a century. It is totally corrupt and is indicative of the ultimate collapse of Israel as a country or as a culture. This is either not emotionally or intellectually pallatable to anybody left.Obadiah Shower’s position is so unassailable–so right and yet intellectually responsible that no one who cares about Israel can afford not to understand and to embrace it: “Samson Blinded” is the blog. Mob psychology? Jumping on the pacifism bandwagon? I agree that it’s easier to believe what everybody else believes, but that doesn’t explain why everybody else believes it in the first place.How come Israelis never learned the simple self-defense concept of killing someone before they can kill you, your friends, or family? It’s so basic and so fundamental to human psychology, but most Israelis don’t seem to be able to grasp this simple principle of self-preservation (except in the case of a so-called “ticking bomb”). Maybe Leftist secular-Jewish parenting is to blame?

I agree, but wouldn’t you say that the public generally supported the concessions? Through public support (or at least lack of outrage and falling approval ratings) Israeli politicians learned that giving away land to mortal enemies is not a big deal for at least half of the Israeli electorate. Furthermore, Kadima’s platform was based purely on territorial concessions which the Israeli public supported by voting for them. I just don’t understand how Israelis can be some of the smartest people in the world and yet consistently make some of the stupidest decisions and have the most ignorant and suicidally naïve opinions of any people in the world. How is it possible??

On the other hand, it is the right that offered the biggest consessions: Begin gave away Sinai, and Sharon – Gaza. It’s rare to have a good government, right or left.

I hold common Israelis responsible for the decisions of their governments, especially after electing Kadima…How could they possibly elect Kadima? Have they learned NOTHING from the Oslo War??

Because that wasn’t a mistake, from the government’s standpoint. Israeli government is concerned not with the Jewish state, but with looking good with its foreign friends, sponsors, and oligarchs. It’s OK for the government to sacrifice Jewish land and security.
