So we Jews are a people, and in this rotten world the only way a people can be protected is with a state with it's army. Within the state, there must be place for the religious Jews to practice and live according to their beliefs. There could and should be whole communities like that, (perhaps all of Jerusalem could be entirely kosher, no gay parades, no bread on Passover, etc.) then Tel Aviv, could be a different place. There is a deep bond between all Jews, and it is stupid to deny it, or create rifts because of adherence to some rituals and practices. This is real freedom and diversity. Some communities may chose to be religious, other may chose to be communist, others again can be vegan, other can be artists, dancers scientist, or whatever the hell they want. The important thing that they all recognize each other as part of Jewish nation, and support the collective in the areas that must be addressed collectively for example national defense, universities, or health care, or some big projects such as nuclear power plant, or building roads, or environmental issues. Also, there must be cooperation in the sphere of education, where some minimum educational standards are required. - So this is the most wonderful vision of very diverse communities supporting each other in maintaining the state that protects their diversity.
