Samson Blinded makes the assertion that the right-wing in Israel is anything but right-wing.

The Torah is just fine. Most who read it have no problem with it. Who discounted any Jew outside the land Ray, I said, who should be in our land. If, per say, the Torah would be updated, it would be done by the Mashiakh. This is per the Tanach too Ray. I can assure you it still won't include goyim and encourage hellenistic Jews (those who have adopted foreign cultures) to return to the Torah. Starting with the 10 Sayings. Exodus 20.

Shiloh,

3300 years old laws, may need updating. Many things have changed since then, for example, there was no 747 flying between Tel Aviv and NYC every day. Neither was there telephone, or Internet which allows Jews everywhere to be in touch with their homeland.

Stop discounting Jews living in other countries, without their support, there would have been no Israel. Their support is still essential.

This was done 3300 years ago. It's called the Torah. It defines who is a Jew and who is not. It defines who we should marry, who should be in our land etc etc. This is spilling the seed.

Danny,
I agree, nations will never live in peace with each other.
Nations have a certain positive role to play, they preserve the unique collective experience of a group of people.
The moral/ethical development of humanity is much slower than the scientific and technological, yet the changing circumstances will have an impact on moral development as well. Also, the modern genetics will eliminate the ethnicity and race base for the peoplehood.
In an affluent word, money becomes meaningless, and already today, people can come to Jerusalem from Tuscany quicker than from Galilee 3000. Even from Hawaii, the journey can be made within 24 hours.
Naturally in the future this may be shortened to 1 hour, about the time it takes to come from Tel Aviv.

There is no problem with Jews living in other places and maintaining the support and connection with their ancestral and home in the Land of Israel. Such connections only make Israel and Jews stronger.

Danny,

I am saying that you and I, are members of the Jewish nation, and we have a certain commonality deep in our psyche. However I think I understand your question: We need a definition of a Jew. I think a good working definition of a Jew is any individual who wholeheartedly identify himself as a member of the Jewish people.
I believe that for long time to come a great majority of such individuals will be ethnic Jews and individuals from mixed heritage. Additionally there will be people who for reasons not known to us, want to be a part of the Jewish people. I know several such people, several of them believe that the reason why they feel such affinity with the Jewish people is that they are descendants of Jewish ancestors who converted to save their lives.

There must be some agreed upon method for testing ones Jewish nationality. I don't have the answer, it is something that would have to be invented in such ways that it satisfied the needs of both religious and non-religious Jews.
I do think that willingness to serve in the armed forces is certainly one of the criteria, but perhaps neither sufficient, nor absolutely necessary.
I would also think that a test of knowledge of the history of the Jewish people, should be a part of the test.

So you suggest that the basic law of the State of Israel commands all the inhabitants to "think and talk" like you? Sort of too subtle for a policy, no?

Of course it's for us. But we need to know how to operate it. G-d knew why he ordered to build a temple, because there is always the change to do the things right. But there is the chance to do the opposite.
Guess what, temple service WAS perfect sometimes.

Ray

I assure you that you may not have 1000 years, in light of current world events. If I may, Nations will never live in peace with one other Nations, I belive that is a wrong headed hypothesis.

*Others may find Hawaii, or Tuscany more attractive.* If there is extreme idolatry - love of money(being the root of all evil), yes I agree.
