The Gaza operation unleashed a wave of anti-Semitic feeling. I fear it will only take one sweeping, unprecedented action by Israel to push the Judeophobic Left over the edge. Consider this possible headline from the near future.
"Israel swarmed by refugees fleeing ant-semitism."
Jews from all over the world have been flocking to Israel in unprecedented numbers. But these migrations are no ordinary aliyahs. These Jews are refugees, fleeing global anti-semitism after Israel's latest attack on Gaza.
The trouble started when Hamas terrorists assembled an improvised nuclear device (IND). How the materials for the device were obtained is not known, though intelligence sources point to terrorist contacts in the uranium-rich and heavily Islamicized countries of Central Asia. It did not matter. The terrorists attached the IND to a homeamde rocket, creating a crude but deadly nuclear warhead. Hamas fired the rocket from the northern edge of the Gaza Strip, aiming for the populous southern Israeli city of Ashod. The rocket landed in the town hall parking lot. The resulting 10-kiloton nuclear explosion levelled the city isntantly. 100,000 people were killed outright, 80,000 people were wounded, and the remainder of the city's population were left homeless.
The Israeli response was swift and overwhelming. A fleet of bombers flew over the Gaza Strip, releasing several nuclear weapons. All life in the territory was extinguished, from humans to vegetation to bacteria. The Hamas threat to Israel was exterminated, at the cost of the entire population of the Gaza Strip.
The immediate international reaction around the world was extreme anger. People took to the streets protesting Israel's "atomic genocide" of Gaza. It didn't take long for this display of hatred towards Israel to mutate and show its true face as what is commonly called "the world's oldest hatred."
It began with isolated incidents of violence against Jews. These attacks grew in frequency and intensity, becoming full-scale pogroms. The governments of the world outside Israel reacted with indifference at best, and encouragement at worst. Israeli settlers in the West Bank, however, were able to defend themselves from Palestinian attacks.
With the entire world suddenly becoming a dangerous place for Jewry, many Jews looked to the Holy Land as their last refuge. But emigrating by traditional means was impossible. At airports, people who tried to book one-way flights to Israel were spotted and killed.
Unable to migrate legally, the Jews took drastic action. Some trekked many miles over land to reach Israel. Others built rafts and set out on perilous voyages towards the Holy Land.
The massive influx of refugees has created a strain on the Israeli economy and society. The Israeli government has appealed to the United Nations for help. The UN-unsurprisingly, given its long history of taking an anti-Israel stance-refused. Some Israelis have called for the government to turn back the refugees. The government, however, is unwilling to see a repeat of the Holocaust-where Jews who tried to flee Europe were turned back and left to die-and has continued to recieved the arriving refugees.
A particular bone of contention has been the arrival of Messianic Jews. Originally denied aliyah due to their religious beliefs, this restriction has been done away with in the interests of preserving ethnic Jewry.

A grim headline from the near future:
"Victims of global anti-Semitism flock to Israel"
Jewish "boat people" are coming en masse to Israel on improvised rafts, fleeing pogroms all over the world.
"The trouble began when Hamas somehow acquired a 'suitcase nuke.' They took out the main nuclear device and attached it to a homemade rocket, creating a crude nuclear warhead. From a unidentified site on the southern limits of Gaza City, the terrorists fired the improvised nuke at the city of Ashdod, levelling it instantly. Close to 90% of the city's 200,000-odd residents were killed. Their bomb shelters, made to protect against conventional weapons, could not withstand the sheer power of the 20-kiloton nuclear explosion.
"The Israeli response was swift and overwhelming. They sent a fleet of nuclear-armed bombers to the Gaza Strip. The bombers dropped their payload on every square inch of the territory. All life in the bombed area was annihilated, from human beings to microbes.
"That is when the Second Shoah began.
"The immediate reaction to Israel's response was burning rage. People took to the street screaming about Israel's 'atomic genocide' of Gaza. Since Israel is regarded as the symbol of world Jewry, it didn't take long for this hatred of Israel to mutate into what is commonly called 'the world's oldest hatred.' It started with isolated incidents of violence against anything remotely Jewish. The attacks escalated in frequency and intensity, becoming full-scale pogroms. The governments of the countries in which the Second Shoah occured reacted with indifference at best, and encouragement at worst.
"With their lives in mortal danger, many Jews looked towards Israel to escape. However, the danger of being attacked at any moment made traditional emigration impossible. At airports, Jews who tried to catch flights to Israel were recognized and lynched. Thus, the Jews made rafts, gathered supplies, and set out on long, dangerous voyages to the Promised Land. The arriving voyagers have set up refugee camps, making the Israeli coast resemble northern Pakistan with its large Afghan refugee population. All this has created a strain on the Israeli economy and society. The Israeli government has appealed to the United Nations for help in the growing humanitarian crisis. The UN-unsurprisingly, given its long-standing anti-Israel bias-has brushed off Israel's pleas.
"A particular bone of contention has been Messianic Jews. Ordinarily denied aliyah due to their religious doctrines, deemed heretical by mainstream Jews, exceptions have been made due to the current extraordinary situation. The Israeli government has argued that its current policy is to protect Jews based on their ethnic identity, and that Messianic Jews, with their Jewish heritage and adherence to traditional Jewish customs, fit the criteria for being Jewish."
The situation I described above is not too far from reality. It would only take one sweeping, devastating action by Israel to push the anti-Semitic Left over the edge.

"All is fair in love and war".

The Palestinians seem to forget that they've been making war on Israel for years. Did they really expect no response from Israel?

War IS terrible. A "proportional response" would have allowed the same thing to continue as Gazans would see no reason to stop. They needed a reason to stop; hopefully they've found one.

Heck, didn't the Russians smoke list 100,000 chechniyans? Or was it 200,000. But they are "deeply concerned with the humanitarian situation in gaza". Yeah, too many humans around; Russians hate to see a job done badly.

Great blog! It astonishes me every time I hear the failed logic that Israel used disproportionate force! The bombing of Pearl Harbor, ultimately lead to the dropping of the atomic bomb. Only assholes on the left argue that the atomic bomb dropping was wrong!

Its always amusing when I hear Russia talk about proportionate responses, they are the kings of kicking the shit by any and all means possible when provoked or in most cases when not provoked! Case in point Georgia, Ukraine, Moldavia and Afghanistan!

I found a definition that may explain the idea of proportionality as applied to military incursions, to a certain extent.

military necessity. Int'l Law. A principle of warfare that permits enough coercive force to achieve a desired end, as long as the force used is not more than is called for by the situation. This principle dates from the Hague Convention on Laws and Customs of War on Land of October 18, 1907, which prohibits the destruction or seizure of enemy property "unless such destruction of [sic.] seizure be imperatively demanded by the necessities of war." Black's Law Dictionary 1008 (Bryan A. Garner ed., 7th ed., West 1999).
