It is only in later Christian theology that he emerges as estranged from his own people. As his followers became predominantly gentile, Christianity became divorced from its Jewish roots. The reason Jews have been persecuted ever since is due to the erroneous Christian belief the Jews rejected Jesus because he taught a radical change in Jewish doctrine. That was never true at all but the myth was even more powerful than the man and that had deadly consequences later on for the Jewish people.
