I am an American, I am a Jew. My father signed up after Vietnam to come fight in the yom kippur war. My grandfather was a Jewish War Veteran from WW2. I have lived, studied and traveled to Israel several times. Myself, and my family have a history over generations of supporting Israel and encouraging our country, the USA, to support Israel. Through AIPAC, Federation, the US Congress and though I am no fan of Pres Bush, even the past 8 years from the White House, Israel has enjoyed an unprecented level of support from the US. That support has been built on decades and generations of Americans like my family's own work, that what's best for the US is best for Israel and what is best for Israel is best for the US. Your article above is a myopic, narrow-minded, insular and quite honestly disgraceful view from an obviously unappreciative and unintelligent individual. Of course, nothing is perfect and yes at times American aid dollars come with contigents....friends can have differences, allies can have challenges...but the authors points above offer no merit, nor idealogical basis for its claims. Read your history, look at how many times American aid has come to benefit Israel and visa-versa. Our relationship isn't perfect..but it's better than you've got anywhere else. Like scholars have said for generations...it might not be an ideal system, but you won't find one better. No one's asking Israel to feel enslaved nor beholden, but least you do not have to slap the hand that helps you

In fact, the Kach Party (banned in America) held an electoral promise of refusing American aid.
American money is hardly 10% of Israeli military budget. US aid to Egypt is more significant.
And it makes sense for Israel to buy inexpensive Russian weapons rather than hyper-expensive American ones.

IF YOU DON'T WANT OUR MONEY THEN DON'T TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ISRAEL WOULD BE LONG GONE WITHOUT AMERICAN SUPPORT, YOU FIGHT WITH OUR WEAPONS AND OUR MONEY, ITS THAT SIMPLE

THEN YOU HAVE THE NERVES OF BEING UNAPPRECIATIVE.
ITS DISGUSTING

A couple more 9/11 type attacks and you'd see every American 3 times as bloodthirsty as they were the first time; then we'd simply pull funding off the rest of our country aids, cut NASA funds and stupid organizations, find fiscally responsible politicians (and of course get the world back on our side.. after that, they would be again) then go after the bastards and destroy them.

Or if worse came to worst we'd just drop a nuke on their ass's, sad to say but I don't think any country is past it; if we think we must do it to survive.

As for the American funding to Israel; might as well accept it, its free military aid - both Israel and America benefit from it well. America and Israel are like two of the tightest countries there are, America has the second largest Jewish population in the world (at mid 4 mill), and the highest amount of tourism into Israel; America has the best weapons on the planet, now so does Israel. America wants The Middle East to be stable, democratic and have no dictators (and most importantly the secret agenda of being capitalist) and believe it or not SO DOES ISRAEL. The agenda is the same, we want Israel to survive and flourish and we want the Middle East to become modern and not try to destroy Israel; because an enemy of Israel is an enemy of America.. and Egypt/Saudi Arabia have pretty well settled down on the ultimate destruction of Israel... not to say they wouldn't jump on the band wagon if they got a chance, but they aren't about to start crap with Israel and the more time that passes the less likely it is too happen.

I agree with VL on the base thing; we will never let go of our international bases; they are the reason were able to host military strikes anywhere in the world within days (technically even a day, but full on ones in a week or two). Also if America goes back to isolationism like truly cold turkey... which won't happen, but if it did in the present circumstances I think you'd see Israel getting raped in about 6 locations maybe not immediately but shortly after.

It means both Afghanistan and Iraq would have no forces in their country to protect from terrorists thus those two would become terrorist/dictator nations probably on some sort of feudal system-- Iran would be free-willie all over the Middle East since all those pretty little embargoes would disappear (seeing as America instated them all). We'd see a more aggressive anti-semite outlook on Israel from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and likely another coalition to destroy Israel; oh and lets not forget Iran would finally go ahead and build that nuke and god forbid they dropped it on Israel.

I know everyone hates the police, but you do NOT want to imagine the kind of chaos that ensues when the police stop patrolling your street.

Yeah, I guess you're right. No one could could figure out what to do with a high demand surplus commodity that was acquired at less than market price. You'd have to be some sort of financial black market genius to avoid getting stuck with such a fungible product. Maybe they could put it in little vials and sell it like souvenir Dead Sea water at all the trinket shops. When you get it for next to nothing the overhead is low and the profit is high.

They could always run their A/C full blast and buy lots of gas guzzlin' road hogs and with the amount of land more or less continuously annexed by Israel, the sky's the limit as far as growth of consumption is concerned. And aren't Israel's new submarines diesel? They could set up the fun excursions a la Disneyland's undersea extravaganza as well as look into the feasability of attracting the water skiing crowd (lots of funds for discretionary spending).

If it does look as if they'd be stuck with it, I'm sure there'd be a skipper with a tanker ship of any size willing to dock in one of Israel's industrial seaports and take it off their hands for only a modest fee. It would be a shame for that stuff to start piling up and all.

Try thinking, how could *much* oil go to Israel, a country of 7 million people which needs very little heating and driving?

Well, we inexplicably turned down Venezuala's generous offer of heating oil at a reduced cost. The agreement with the Sauds was to provide a steady supply of oil and a stable pricing structure.

[from - http://www.setamericafree.org/saf_hiddencostofoil010507.pdf - The first and most obvious external or “hidden” cost related to outlays related to the defense of America’s oil supplies. The need to defend our access to foreign crude is not a new development. It was clearly understood in 1945, when President Franklin Roosevelt met with King Ibn Saud aboard the USS Quincy and reached an agreement whereby the U.S. would guarantee Saudi Arabia’s security in exchange for access to its oil. Every successive President, regardless of party, would reaffirm this commitment from that time
forward. - end excerpt]

Demand is going way up so more buyers are chasing a finite output. I think part of the reason that the wells are still not metered in Iraq is so that enormous quatities of it can be stolen, including much of the flow going to Israel.

Lance: So, as you can see - your administration can impose things against your will, and so can our administration.
You might wanna ask your officials about why, despite all of your money they've been giving to oil producing countries, the prices of gas have been on the rise.
