(July 16, 2010) A bill sponsored by David Rotem from the Israel Beiteinu party is going to give the Orthodox rabbis control of all the conversions... and more important to me, tell me that my rabbi isn’t “kosher” enough for them. That my son-in-laws conversion isn’t kosher and my grandchildren (one of whom will be bat mitzvah in three months, is a bastard. In the fog of their religious zeal, and contempt for Jews who do not follow their strict practice of Judaism, they are alienating an important part of the Diaspora. History is replete with examples of failed theocracies; Catholic church in Spain, the Episcopal church of England, and were it not for oil, the Saudis, Iran, and the gulf states would have suffered the same fate. Wait until US politicians sense that Jewish support for Israel is not happy with what’s happening in Israel. Wait until the American donations begin to wither. The members of the Knesset have to out of their minds to consider such a bill which will resonate badly throughout the Jewish community. A Prophet has the power of HASHEM backing him up and can go against 1 trillion people by himself . As MOSHE and AHARON did when they went against Pharaoh and the Egyptian. the Bnei Yisrael were slaves and were affraid to challenge their egyptian masters. but the Connection of MOSHE and AHARON to HASHEM was so strong that it was HASHEM fighting the entire fight. Even in the Talmud the Rabbis never saved other Jews they were content in having Yavne a Torah learning center and would give up Jerusalem .
