You are so right. If you change the anthem, the identity of Israel (home for the Jewish people) will suffer tremendously. Stop giving up what is most precious. This is not only in the hands of you, but in the hands of God. Whoever steals or diminishes the beauty of Israel and her people mocks the I Am. This is dangerous ground.

Right, and actually - I checked - the law in question is repealed by now. In Perez vs. Brownell, the Supreme Court stated directly the opposite.
There is, however, a gray area of dual citizenship and multiple allegiance.

Quote: The Supreme Court handed down its decision in Afroyim v. Rusk , 387 U.S. 253. In that decision, the court declared unconstitutional the provisions of Section 349(a) which provided for loss of nationality by voting in a foreign election.

There is a major technical problem. The US citizenship is lost by participating in foreign elections.

Advantages:
1. The Jewish population of Israel will "jump" to 13 milion => no more demographic problem
2. Like Danny said, the Diaspora are more right than Israelis, especially those that will actually vote.
3. No more pressure from the goim about the undemocratic Jewish State because of the Law of Return. Just like Frenchmen that live outside of France, we'll have Jews that live outside the Jewish Country.
4. This will increase the identification of the Diaspora Jews with Israel, will put a small break on assimilation, and increase their motivation to do full Alia
And many other benefits...

And they don't actually need to assume any obligation (like taxes or military service). (I don't understand the Israeli attitude of "I suffer here so everybody else must suffer also". Living in Eretz Israel is far more rewarding than any obligation I might have here.)

Other countries don't have 2/3 of the potential citizenry living abroad. But again, the idea makes some sense, and Obadiah discussed a similar arrangement in his book, but responsibilities of foreign citizens should be clear. Diaspora Jews are more right that Israelis, and the left oppose the extension of vote.

I agree with Benjamin that the idea of giving citizenship (or offering it) to all Jews regardless of where they live is excellent. Just about every other country allows the same - even if they are born and live abroad and do not pay taxes in the country in question. As for serving in the IDF, again countries with a requirement for military service stipulate that these citizens must return when required for military duty. Israel could do the same. Those refusing to comply would loose their entitlement to citizenship. By the way the other countries to which I refer allow all citizens to vote, no matter where they live.

In the unqualified form, the idea is wrong. Jews who don't pay Israeli taxes or serve in the IDF have no moral right to vote on our policies.

Why isn't there more support for Feiglin's idea of giving citizenship to all Jews regardless where they live? It would solve many problems...

Chaim, please, we already agreed with you that the case of your wife is special-to-unique. By far most Gentile spouses brought to Israel from the Soviet Union' leftovers are more remote from Jewishness than Yosi Beilin.
