Sadly, Danny, there never was much of a “fuss” over the prolonged Israeli air and naval assault on the USS Liberty. The “Inquiry” was one of the shortest and quickest in US Naval history. It is the only known case where the foreign attacker’s testimony trumped that of the eyewitness, US defenders.

Rather than embarass the Israelis, LBJ engineered a quick cover-up. Some dare to wonder, what did the Mossad have on LBJ that made him so docile and subservient to Israel?

Mordechai Vanunu and others have claimed that the Israeli Mossad murdered JFK, that act propelled LBJ into power. This could explain LBJ’s strange behavior regarding the USS Liberty incident.

Finally, your suggestion that the US was preparing to deploy US forces, to aid the Egyptians, in 1967, is quite preposterous. That is the most absurd explanation for Israel’s vicious attack on the USS Liberty that I have ever heard…..and I’ve heard all of the official explanations and many unofficial explanations.

I have identified the US War Lobby as being a tripartite cosnsortium of three seperate, but related, lobbies – the Defense lobby, the Israel lobby and the Energy lobby (acronym: DIE). Your statement confirms my view.

American peace activists have no qualms about attacking the policies of the Defense and Energy lobbies, but are reluctant to attack the policies of the Israel lobby, out of fear of being labelled as “terrorist-enabling anti-Semites”.

Israel is our military ally? To my knowledge, Israel has never sent a single soldier to fight alongside US forces in any of our military conflicts, from 1948 to the present day.

Israel did attack the USS Lberty, in a combined air and naval assault, in June of 1967. This was not mistaken identity. Thiry-four US sailors were killed and dozens more were critically wounded in the vicious and prolonged attack.

Israel has gotten the US into wars at their behest, such as the current ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now the Israelis want us to attack Iran. With allies like Israel, who needs enemies?

As for the US aid, Israel has always been first in line at the feeding trough…some ten million dollars every day – courtesy of the US taxpayer.

Go ahead and refuse the aid, please. The US receives little, exccept for trouble, in return for our generosity to the ungrateful Jewish State. Truly needy nations could use that aid.

My bad, although Carter made an attempt to mitigate between Israel and Jordan, Bill Clinton, not Jimmy Carter, can take the credit for negotiating the final peace treaty between Israel and Jordan. Here’s the Wikipedia snippet on that -

Danny, you claimed that the US was surprised by the announcement that a peace deal had been reached in 1994. That’s hardly possible, in light of the facts.

As for the treaty between Israel and Egypt, Carter was absolutely instrumental in bringing the two sides together. Carter provided the venue for the 1978 “Camp David Accords”, Camp David is a US Presidential retreat outside of Washington DC.

The direct result of the Camp David talks was the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, signed in 1979.

Carter never hated Begin, on the contrary, he trusted Begin to be true to his word and halt the illegal colonization of the Occupied Territories – the so-called “settlements”. Carter’s trust was misplaced, as it turned out. Begin reneged on that key point. The rest is history.

My point still stands, the Israelis are total ingrates, the Carter Administration was very kind and generous to the Jewish State in Palestine.
