Hi, I too just stumbled onto this site by chance. I hope more people will red Carroll's Sword of Constantine where he documents almost 2000 years of Christian (Catholic) anti-semitism. My own prior onclusion was that if it hadn't been for the history he documents in his book, there probably would not have been the Shoah.
I suppose this has no point but my own speculation for anti-semitism beyond the jealousy that clever strangers incur (be they Indian in Africa, Chinese in SW Asia, or Armenians in Turkey) there is the fact that early Christians hoped that Jews "would see the light" and follow them, and when they didn't, they reviled and spoke ill of them; Mohamed did the same until the Jews laughed at him and his ideas; Luther spokewell of the Jews until they thought ill of him and his ideas. And still today, Mormons can't resist baptising long dead Jews. I see a pattern. "If only the Jews were not such a stiff-necked people!

Hi,

I just found your site and read a bit.
One thing you must understand;
The State Dept. in the US is wickedly leftist.
It is The State Dept that calls the tune for most presidents as they has sooo much on their plates they generally go along with this "esteemed and educated group of experts".

IF 9/11 HAD to happen it's just too bad the targets were not the State Dept and the UN.

Though IO am certain there are good people in both they are consistently forces for evil (another concept lost on the libs)..
GOD bless you.

To Danny: Of course you may be correct, but I suspect this is not the case. Did Congress not pass a law that the US Embassy be relocated to Jerusalem, which surely reflects the wishes of most voters. Yet every president, including Bush, on the advice of the State Dept. vetoes it. I see no evidence that the majority of Americans refuse to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

I would insist that the State Depart., like bloated bureaucracies throughout the West, operates in a very different world from the voters. These bureaucrats actually and truly believe that they know what is best and usually consider the average voter quiet ignorant. This observation is based on personal experience.

To Judah: Egypt is less than overt than Syria, that's it. Muslim Brotherhood controls the largest number of members in Egyptian parliament. Egypt has by far the strongest army in Muslim world, whose only enemy is Israel. The US gives Egypt aid and weapons.
The US sides with strong and useful. Israel is weak and useless. Having a strong army without a will to use it is weakness.

To Alain: Perhaps the State Department only realize the wishes of voters? Perhaps the policy is simply a quintessence of the systemic anti-Semitism?

To Danny: The reason for US support for Egypt is the State Dept, which has consistently been pro-Arab. These enlightened bureaucrats think that it is necessary to please all Arabs. Why else do they continue to buy into the myth that the creation of a "Palestinian" State is a requirement to please all the Arabs? Every intelligent and honest person knows that the mythological palestinians have never existed and do not exist. Yet the U.S. State Dept. insist, like the EU, that because this invented people do not have a state of their own there can be no peace in the M.E. I agree that oil is the main reason for this love affair when it comes to the oil producing Arab countries, but there are other things at play concerning the rest of the Arab world. Why the stubborn refusal to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem - even under Bush?

Danny, yes it is interesting that mostly those who loosely identify themselves as Christians are anti-Israel, pro-Arab. Very telling, in my view.

Why does the US support Egypt? Good question! It seems to me they are moderate in comparison to, say, Syria, would you agree? Perhaps that voice of moderation enables the friendship going back to Sadat. (I'm not arguing the alliance should exist today, by the way.) Ultimately, I don't know, I'm not a political scientist. I take it you have some inklings of an answer, Danny?

To Alain, Judah: isn't it, indeed, interesting that mainstream and liberal churches are often anti-Israeli, while fundamentalist sectarians are often pro-Israeli? The support for Israel seems to come from messianic sects, opposed by the majority of people who loosely identity themselves as Christians.
Also to Judah: but why the US support for Egypt? No oil exports to the West.

Danny, you're right there are *some* churches that are pro-Arab, in particular, it's the so-called progressive, leftist churches such as Presbyterians. Those churches continue to diminish as so-called progressive and relative moralism leads to lawlessness.

Outside of those pieces of Christianity, Christians largely support Israel and that sentiment is growing.

On America's support of Saudi Arabia, yes, and the reason is because the US benefits from Saudi exports, oil in particular. Doesn't sound flattering, but that's reality for you.

The reason for the lack of true support for Israel from the U.S. is identified at the beginning of the article - bureaucracy. The State Dept. remains as always anti-Israel and operates independently of the president's agenda. How true the comment about governments being run behind closed doors by their bureaucracies instead of the elected politicians in the West.

Judah is correct concerning the strong support from many so-called fundamental Christians for Israel. The ones I know are much stronger in their support for Israel than many Jews. One indicator is that in spite of everything the large majority of American Jews continue to vote for Democrats. Evidence shows that this party was hijacked by the extreme Left and is no friend of Israel, but these same Jews refuse to accept reality. There was a general increase of religious Jews moving to the Republicans, yet the majority of Jews remained blind.

Another observation I have made is how most non religious Jews still believe that Christians who support Israel are a bigger danger than all the jihadists. This defies all reason. Personally I do not care if a Christian's support is based on his belief that it will welcome the "second coming", as long as that support is real. I am secure enough in my faith not to feel threatened, and I am smart enough to figure out who is truly out to behead me and my family.

To Danny - I find the more liberal and mainstream the church is the more anti-Israel it is. As to the Catholic Church I know it has made an official change concerning Jews, but I find many individual Catholics who range from being anti-Israel to just plain anti-Semitic. Clearly this denomination has a long way to go yet.
