A midrash tells us that when Jews welcomed the Torah, God hanged Mount Sinai above us and threatened to drop it unless we accept the Torah. The lesson is, we have no free will in accepting the yoke.

Being "chosen" is a misnomer. We are the ones who chose to carry G-d's laws. It had been offered to others before us, and we were the ones who chose it. And it is good for us to thank the Lord for allowing us that choice and privilege. The Reform Rabbis I have spoken with all encourage people to follow all of the Torah laws that are possible (consider how many apply to the priesthood and are not possible, for example), with full knowledge of what those laws mean and understanding of what it means not to follow any one law. The onus is then on the individual to learn, to understand, and to follow G-d's torah. And that is a difficult burden - the one we chose and that we should all follow!

Yup, but we thank God for being chosen. Normally, you don't thank someone for giving you an inferior product.

What does it mean to be Jewsih? Remember this, before we were a faith we were a PEople. Modern Science has blessed us with what we have already known: The Jewish People share a much closer genetic link that groups that stand outside their circle.

whether you are a Bukhari, Yemeni, or Galitzner you share a close genetic bond that reall does make you a brother (or sister) to your fellow Jew.

Y Chromosomal Modfdality among Kahanim has proven this as has other aspects of genome research far too numerous to touch on here.

What else makes one Jewish? Rabbis of course merely argue that having a Jewish mother and fufillment of Mitzvot is the magic formula but I say all 3 are important.

One CAN convert but even there assuming the convert marries Jewish the 2 or 3rd generation of his offspring will have been integrated back into the genteic line so that the genetic connection remains unbroken.

We are a People, a People with a unique faith and a unique outlook and since all 3 aspects are just as important, all 3 need to be preserved as equally strong.

Ahhh, so right on the so called Reform/Liberal Movements but you forget that even among Caredim there have been innovative thinkers who have adapted the faith and practices of our people to changing times.

What of Ba'al Shem Tov? Did he not reform the pietists who believed the only way to commune is with a nose in a book?

I also disagree that our faith sees itself as better. Being "Chosen" is an onus, at least as much as it is a blessing. Ben Noach need only follow 7 Mitzvot while we the Chosen must strive and so our best to fufill 613.

As usual, insightful thoughts though.

Maybe (some?) people in (some?) reform groeps don't belief in HaShem, because HaShem has rejected their (re)form of Judaism, and not put love for the Creator and His Torah in their hearts and minds, but cut them off. Tough I'm not Jewish, I think the entire reform movement (changed service on Shabat) should be rejected completely. Only reading of the Law and what is all completely accepted by all, so that the service stimulates unity. Free preaching (like christn) does not belong there because it is "up for debate". Good luck to you Jews, seek out your Holy Torah, there is nothing like it in the world.

Yup, but what does it mean, "to be Jewish"? How does this impart on your behavior?
Say, a Zulu announce, "Since Monday, I'm Jewish!" What must he do in order for everyone to believe that he is Jewish?

All this talk about what is going to happen in the "future".
While what really matters is what is NOW.
Now the world is antisemitic.
Now Jews are still in pain from Holocaust.
Now huge majority of Arabs and Muslims hate us.
Now, in contrast to the past, we Jews have a state, where we are welcome home where we can be free to be either religious or non-religious. The land where we are not a second class citizens. The only country where we can be sure to not be persecuted just because we are Jews (or Hebrews).

Also now, Jews collectively, are perhaps the most creative people who ever walked on this planet.

This is enough reason to give full support for the Jewish state of Israel.
=
As for the future I am looking forward to the day when Judaism will disappear together with all other belief systems. Or reform to such degree that it will no longer be organized religion.
I am also looking forward to the day when countries will stop existing, and people can live in communities according to their love of the place and their shared vision. (This will incidentally allow Nationalist Jews, and Religious Jews to have a community much like a country.
But really these future hopes and dreams are just that, dreams. Now is what matters, and now we are facing existential threats from our sworn enemies. These threats must not be glossed over. They must be answered.

Analytics >> I always say that religious jews get along better with secular nationalist jews than with anti-sionist haredim. So of course you are welcome !
.
In Israeli politics, the only viable coalition would be Likud + NU-NRP... without haredim and leftist parties.
