Yosi, where in the article do you see Obadiah saying that one cannot own a gun in Israel?

Incidental firing kills more than Arabs? That doesn't sound credible to me. Even if that is true, Arabs kill relatively few Jews in Judea and Samaria specifically because many are armed. Look at how many times Jews shot at Arabs in self-defense.

FYI, you can legally own a gun in Israel just because you want so. Where Obadiah get such ideas?!
Now, guns kill. Actually, incidental firing and misuse kills more that terrorists. Think about it.

I agree 100%.

Unfortunately due to the fact that the following law did not pass just last year (2006) in Virginia, Virginia Tech still legally prohibits good citizens with valid concealed carry permits from being allowed to carry a weapon for their own self defense on campus. Imagine how different Monday's (April 16th, 2007) outcome could have been if just 1 of the innocent persons so violently attacked had had a concealed weapon for their own self protection. But because the law abiding students were not allowed to protect themselves because of the so called "gun free zone" (which only keeps the guns out of the hands of those who could otherwise protect themselves), they were at the mercy of a psycho who spread his mayhem among unprotected citizens shooting dozens of people, 32 of whom died, not including himself. According to witnesses he took his time & even paused for a minute or two several times to reload. An armed citizen could have easily brought an end to the mayhem during a 1 to 2 minute reload pause, if not earlier.

Below are excerpts from an article by Jacob Sullum: http://www.reason.com/news/show/119694.html

"Last year Virginia legislators considered a bill that would have overridden policies at public universities that prohibit students and faculty members with concealed handgun permits from bringing their weapons onto campus. After the bill died in committee, The Roanoke Times reported, Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker welcomed its defeat, saying, "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty, and visitors feel safe on our campus."

"We can't have an armed guard in front of every classroom every day of the year," Virginia Tech campus police chief Wendell Flinchum said after the shootings. Given the reality that police cannot be everywhere, it is unconscionable to disarm people who want to defend themselves."

Even if handguns were to be banned from all law abiding citizens like it has been in the UK since 1997, he still could have easily gotten one on the black market the same way criminals do in the UK where violent crime has been skyrocketing at an alarming rate since the ban. After all nothing is easier for criminals than to commit crime against known defenseless victims. For example, in the UK 53% of home burglaries happen while victims are at home, compared to only 13% in the US where burglars openly admit that they are more afraid of running into an armed homeowner than the police. See more details at: http://www.reason.com/news/show/28582.html

None of this will be reported by the popular media who instead seem mystified that a person can buy a gun just because he has two forms of ID & no criminal history, and the anti gun nuts want to use the event to pass new anti gun laws.
