"He watched indifferently...he remains indifferent to unimaginable brutalities". Actually, unlike us in our spiritual blindness, His eye is always open and His heart yearns for even the wicked to repent, "for He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked" anymore than He took pleasure in destroying mankind with Noah's flood.

"Mercy is the divine prerogative, and the Bible doesn’t even contain clear-cut examples of it."

Obadiah talks in bombastic absolutes throughout that are easily refutable. Take the prophet Jonah, for example and the book attributed to him. Talk about mercy! Because Jonah knew about the absolute Divine Mercy that extends even to the goyiim, he initially refused to go with YHVH's message of repentance to Israel's fearsome enemy. He loathed the land of Nimrod and feared God's mercy would prevail and avail, even to wicked Nineveh.

When by Providential Mercy the wayward prophet was forced to obey or die the death of becoming glorified fish food, he nevertheless stubbornly refused to extend mercy to the Assyrians himself personally. Even though he proclaimed the message that brought national repentance and put off the judgment for another couple of generations,(that would eventually come at the hands of the Babylonians) he remained angry at YHVH for having mercy on those "who didn't know their right hand from their left one."

The issues Obadiah seems to have with the Almighty would be better served by going to the source of the problems he describes which reside in the hearts of each one of us.
