mashiaj taught that orthodoxy and funda-mental-ism is just the truth, the perfection is just being a human,it is just to think in transcendal things,it is just to see ourselves and to show ourselves to others as we really are and they can trust in our being, jesus was living two thousand years in front of us it is time to reach his teaching now, shana tova!

If the Rabbinate could get out of the Exile mentality (and maybe it will in the next generation) they would form a Sanhedren and enact new updated laws to deal with the issues you mention, and many "laws" would be redacted.
You are right that one should work to bring Moshiach and build the 3rd Temple - however that does not mean one neglects the fine points of Mitzvot. We should always work on the details, but never lose sight of the big picture.

Not only are you not "the only Jew to drink the 5th cup," but there are differences of opinions as to when to drink it.

If you check out R' Shlomo Riskin's excellent "Hagaddah Happening," he has a lovely page about the 5th cup and why it is where it is. And no, he's not my rebbe. But I like his Hagaddah very much.

You might consider that all of Orthodoxy is not what you think it is.

I agree with you in rebuilding the temple now. I think it is important to follow the mitzah not get so lost in fences protecting fences we lose the true intent. This Shavuot I asked three Rabbis that I respect why don't we build the temple now. I got varied answers from the fact we do not know where to everything should be because the location of the center is no longer know to the fact that no one is pure now because we don't have the Red Heffer. I also was told the third temple is supposed to be made from Hashem and last forever. I argued that with modernday tecnology we could find the exact location and correct messurments from the first temple. But I was told that if it is even one mm off then it would not be kosher, I said that there are some farmers that have red heffers now. But they then said that the red heffer had to be slaughtered by some one that is not taited by making contact with some one that has touched a dead body. They said back in the time of the temple they had to raise special people to be holly enough to kill them and we can no longer do it. I think the 3rd temple will be made by Hashem by giving the Jewish people miracle after miracle in order for it to come about. But there is no real argument with some one that thinks the temple will fall down from heaven. Like the movie Filed of Dreams I believe that if we build it he will come. By doing more miztahs especially the ones that we need the temple to carry out will bring the Moshicah. Despite Maimodies saying the moshiac will rebuild the temple
I was wondering if you considered the need to be pure, the exact measurements, and the location of the center in you plea to rebuild the temple. I have been thinking about what you wrote since I first read this article. I would really appreciate a response if you have the time.
My younger says the same thing about fences to protect fences in Jewish law after spending a lot of time studying at Yeshivas. Can you recommend a book that points out the fences protecting fences prohibition? I don't know if I would have the opportunity to study enough to figure them out myself at this time.
Keep up the good work.

There is no Fundamentalist Judaism now, regrettably. Theoretically, Karaites would have come close, but they have developed a large body of interpretation of their own and unreasonably disregard many sound opinions in the Talmud.

Obadiah,
I have just recently found Samson Blinded and finally feel that I have 'come home'. I have thought and felt so much of what you say for so long but had never seen it articulated by what I would refer to as a believing Jew. What I am referring to is exactly the title of this article, 'From Orthodoxy to fundamentalism'. Raised in a Conservative tradition, finding no appeal in Reform or Conservative Judaism, I have considered Orthodoxy but so much of it seems so ridiculous and even hypocritical to me.
So where do I begin? Your book does not cover 'fundamental Judaism', and the pieces you have on the website about it are scattered and not easy to integrate into a 'whole'. Have you written anything that starts at the beginning and develops for a beginner your vision of 'fundamental Judaism'?
Thank you for your strength and clarity.

"Most religious outreach programs are even counterproductive."

Danny: I have heard that Rabbi Yitzchak has generated an overwhelming popularity and success in his teaching. Is this not so?

Wow. I love this article. It speaks about the things we need to change.

My biggest wish is to unite secular and religious Jews in Erez Israel. Because a Jew is a Jew and we all have the same obligations.
Instead of building all those fences around the laws we should use that energy on bringing people back and most important improve our Middot!

Peace and hopefully soon in Erez Israel
