Rebuilding by messiah is a rabbinical concept. Karaites take Deutereonomy 30's promise of return to the Land as implying that the returnees will rebuild the Temple.

Danny, if rebuilding the Temple is a rabbinical concept, how come the Karaites also hope and pray for the Temple to be re-built?

You're right, messiah rebuilding the Temple is a rabbinical concept. It seems from Ezekiel that the Temple will be rebuilt before messiah comes. That, apparently, moved the rabbis to believe that the Temple will descend from heaven.

Hmmmm.....I don't think prayer was limited to the feasts and specific occasions. Solomon wisely advises us to let our words be few before God, but that doesn't mean to only speak once in a while. Still, from my experience, God doesn't speak often either - only when he has something to say. I suppose he's too wise to say anything less than important. But I suppose I'm nit-picking. I agree with you in that it's not about praying, but about living according to God's law.

Something else though - where does it say in the Torah or in any of the books of the prophets that the Messiah will rebuild the temple? According to Ezekiel's writings, the Messiah simply came through the east gate (I think the east gate)....and performed the sacrifices and stuff. It never mentions him rebuilding it.

Jewish prayer is the reason Israel exists today. Don't belittle it.

As Herzl famously said: "If you will it, it is no dream". This is the purpose of prayer.

For thousands of years Jews prayed for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, but they did not truly will it into existence until they were at the brink of extermination.

Today, Jews pray for the rebuilding of the Holy Temple, but we clearly do not have enough (collective) will-power to make it so. After the next war, when we may again be faced with complete extermination, I believe the (collective) will-power will finally be there.

The father Abraham believed and it was counted to him as righteousness. The faith is to believe in something that you can not see. If you believe in something that you can see this is not faith. Therefore with the heart one believes – this is the righteousness onto him and with the mouse one confesses - this will bring salvation on to him.
Be of a good cheer and do not play with words. God is greater then we all can even beg for. He is working in all of us to save us from our own mind set.

It is of no use to tell to the praying Jews to stop praying or to the atheistic Jews – to start praying. We are who we are and this cannot be changed by order or advice. And the truth is as usually in between. It belongs to the Jews who believe in G-d and in special mission of the Jewish people, are traditional, but do not get obsessed with the prescriptions of Judaism. The problem is though that there is no mechanism or desire for these people to look for each other in order to advance the truth together. We still should try, but money shell not be involved. Not even $15, not in the beginning. Money should not precede the trust.

What is the point of the hareidi in the diaspora calling out "next year in Jerusalem" and Moshiach Now when at the same time they denigrate our beloved Eretz Israel and even build "replica" Kotels in Berlin??? I am an old lady and in 1948 we fought the British and the Arab marauders with all our might to save our Nation and our land. Now you cannot even speak to a Lubavich Chosid about coming to Israel let alone study the Chumash. I still love to pray though at my own pace. Chag Sameach may our soldiers be safe and may Gilad be a free young man once again.

Shalom. Both prayer and action is needed. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were known for their prayers. Moses spend more time praying for our Jewish people then he did doing anything else. Yes God is capable of acting without our prayers, none-the- less He cares for us to connect with Him. The reason we have so much mess within Israel and the states is because many of our leaders are not God fearing individuals. HASHEM is waiting for His people to stand up and be what He created us to be, and that is a nation of Kings and Priests.
