Today (Jan16) the news FROM Israeli sources is that the Sustex virus, developed together by Mossad and the CIA, has sent Iranian bomb development by 5 years. This gives time to see if the sanctions work. Five years is a long time in this rapidly changing world.

Emmett -- I don't see where references are necessary for the factual content in the article -- it has been covered has been covered in the US and world press ad nauseum.
==
The original thought is that the US made a deal with Iran for them to cut activities in Iraq in exchange for a promise that were won't strike their nuke sites. Very likely to my mind. Won't be able to prove it for 50 years, though, if ever. It is an opinion piece, a very astute one.

I read the article above, but I see no references for me to check to validity of it. That make it little more then an opinion piece. It may well be a valid article but I do not rely on articles that do not give any source material... any one can write an article, positive or Negative... I for one believe in supporting Israels right to exist and defend itself. I also support the right of Iran to exist and defend itself... But I feel we need to watch Iran (and when I write Iran I mean the government/military etc, not it's people) becouse they are being prodded and egged on by others and may well do the one thing that will end there existence... that is start a nuclear war, if they begin it Israel and the us and others will soon end it.

Just my Humble opinion...

In my mind, the explanation of the release of the NIE to "prove" to Iran that we have no intentions of acting militarily against them in exchange for their lowering their involvement in Iraq, is not true, but gives this US administration more credit than is due.

The most likely scenario is the Administrationsn's desire to take no action with respect to Iran and push the problem off to the next Administration. The Problem: A significant part of the public is pressuring the Administration to counter the Iranian nuclear threat. The Administration hasn't the support for an additional war which it can't afford and can't staff. What to do? Just declare the problem...NOT A PROBLEM. Put out a NEI report that says there is no threat and the administration's "off the hook."

We don't want the United States to fight for us. We won all our wars on our own, even despite the American embargo in 1948.
But if you really want out of the Middle East, then stop using Israel as the currency to pay for Arab oil. Don't bug us with the peace process to please your Arab allies.
We'll do the rest.

The US is not responsible for Israel's safety. The US has its hands full with Iraq. The majority of Americans' do not want another war. We need to compromise. We've had enough. Most of us want out of Iraq and out of the Middle East, in spite of what people may tell you.

Iran is a conundrum. We don't want war; and at the same time we don't want them to get their hands on nukes. So we do what we can. Just calm down. This is in our best interest, and perhaps Israel's as well.

Iranians are anyway anti-Israeli, though Jew-neutral.
+
OK, a fine distinction, but it does affect my conclusions.
+
Next, what is achievable. I have heard that Mossad is very good, but do they 99% guarantee that they know the locations of 99% of the sites that are critical? Because the combination of sabotage and bombing needed has to be 95% effective if you do not want v. painful retaliation. I do appreciate that Arab Moslems might not be overwhelmed with the need to retaliate if the inheritors of the Sassanid empire get egg on their face.
+
OTOH ABM technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, and it is unlikely that the primitive Iranian/NK rockets would be able to penetrate by the tim the Iranians are ready to test a bomb.
+
I do think that your post Israel builds Anti-Semitism overstates the negative side of human nature. As I see it, the real problem between Moslems and Jews is (I have read) that Mahommed in Medina ordered the murder of all the Jewish men and the enslavement of all the Jewish women who were at the time peaceful residents at the oasis. It must be rather hard for Muslims not to want to emulate the Prophet's actions.

To Bar: The major reason for bombing the Iranian nuclear installations is that nuclear Iran would be a bad example to other Muslims. Pakistani nuclear scientists work on Iran for some time, so we can expect that the technological transfer is long completed.
And Iranians are anyway anti-Israeli, though Jew-neutral.
